About This Episode

A lot of the things that we do,  especially when you’ve been an abused person,  sometimes it’s done out of fear. – Tracey Forde

How do you recognize if you are in a relationship that is entrenched in domestic abuse?

Most women can go on in their relationships – marital or otherwise – without fully knowing and understanding that they are in fact abused or experiencing abuse in different forms.

All the more reason why I make it my personal mission to always provide a platform where we can tackle topics and have difficult conversations that we might consider messy or uncomfortable  – and the issue of domestic abuse is one stark example. Countless women have suffered long enough without seeing any glimmer of hope or receiving any type of support or opportunity for recovery.

This week, I have Tracey Forde joining me. Tracey is a Trauma Healing and Mindset Coach, motivational speaker, and founder editor of the inspirational blog, plantedtoflourish.com. Tracey shares her own story of domestic abuse, the power behind acceptance and a strong mindset, and finding the courage to step forward and deal with the most difficult of situations.

My conversation with Tracey prompted some important questions that we must ask ourselves as we start building a relationship or have been involved with someone for quite a while. Are we willing to listen to our instincts and intuition when it comes to our significant other, or do we drown out our inner voice telling us to slow down, take a beat, and get to know the person more? Are we sensitive enough to see the red flags in a relationship, or do we drop everything in the name of love even though the signs are all there? Oh, and of course there is more.

A word of caution for those listening to this episode, this may be triggering and could drudge up painful, traumatic memories that you’d want to never think about again, so if you need to pause do so.

In this conversation, we discuss:

  • What exactly  is  a domestic violence  relationship and what is it not
  • How abuse comes in various forms, not just physical
  • How going backward helped Tracey to move forward
  • Staying alert, aware and active when it comes to preventing abuse
  • Identifying red flags for abusive behavior in someone you’re currently dating
  • Different types of healing
