We have all been through a harrowing breakup or two, but divorce is different. You can’t just cut the cord and walk away: Often, the breakup is drawn out – as a result, the pain runs deep. Many times, children are involved. Assets need to be split and lives uprooted. It goes without saying that ending a marriage can make you rethink everything you thought you knew about love – and sometimes, even, yourself. But, it shouldn’t prevent you from finding happiness with a new person.
Before getting back out there,the most important thing to do is address your own recovery. Can you start dating while still going through the divorce, or is there a certain amount of time you should wait? How do you know you’re ready to move on? To answer these questions and offer other post-divorce dating do’s and don’ts, I speak with Carla Stotts, who has been through it all. She shares her experience, how she was able to set non-negotiables for her subsequent relationships, and her biggest regret.
